Lucky Lex

Lucky Lex Back In the Game

by Rich Glanzer

There are many ways to become the sole Survivor. Athleticism, great strategy, and strong alliances are three ways. A whole lot of luck is another. For Lex van den Berghe, the whole lot of luck just came through.

Lex told Boston Rob that he was ready for a merge. Boston Rob surely was ready to vote Lex out had there been a merge. But luckily for Lucky Lex, there was no merge. Instead the teams got randomly switched, and basically stayed randomly the same. They switched living quarters, switched names, and switched Amber. But that little switch of Amber has changed the whole complexion of this game.

Boston Rob no longer controls this game. He has turned over all his cards and everyone knows what he has, and more specifically what he's lost, his own personal queen of hearts. This new Boston Rob isn't the same schemer that was invited to play the All-Star edition of Survivor. This Boston Rob is the puppy dog love kinda guy, one who will do anything for his girl.

When he told Lex to do what he can to keep Amber in the game, he basically told everyone who was in ear shot that he is switching alliances. He showed his hand to his competitors and put himself in great danger of being voted out should his tribe ever lose immunity again. It's arguably the most romantic moment ever on reality TV. Too bad this isn't The Bachelor, or Average Joe.

The game is called Survivor, and Rob threw Lex a lifeline. Lex now is back in the game full force. If Lex can get Rob to keep his word, something that has been proven to be worth nothing in the past, he can see the final five. Then he'd just have to convince Big Tom that he'd be better off with him in the final three, and vote off Rob and Amber in the 5,4 slots.

But will Rob keep his word? Will Rob be around to keep his word? Both of those questions are almost too hard to accurately predict. Rob is certainly a new man. Winning a million dollars is secondary to winning Amber. So maybe he will keep his word and, "look out for Lex."

Or maybe Rob will be voted out next. He doesn't have Amber's vote anymore, and I can see a Rupert, Alicia, Jenna alliance.

So where does this leave Lex? Lex made the right call by getting rid of Jerri. Had he kept Jerri and voted off Amber, then his tribe would still be one member short, and have little chance to win any physical challenge. Now he has a chance to be in a five people alliance, and Rob may not target him.

However Kathy's reasoning of not wanting to anger Rob is laughable. I mean how powerful is this guy? Had they voted off Amber, Rob probably would have been distraught, and may have become uninspired and physically weaker.

But sometimes luck is a better friend than skill. Just ask Lucky Lex.
