Q & A with Survivor Marquesas Castaway Robert 'The General' Decanio

SurvivorSkills: How has life changed for The General since Survivor?
The General: Life has been a lot of fun for me since survivor. The time during and post game have really been life changing for me. I have persued adventures and experiences with a new zest for life. I was able tohost a daily web TV show for the 2002 US Open in Flushing Meadows, were I grew up and worked as a kid. I have been able to donate a lot of time to appearing at various fund raisers for some great causes and help in raising Hundreds of thousands of dollars. Most of them did benefit children organizations which is number one in my book. but the best thing to come outof it for me are the new friendships and bonds that that I have made and all the people that you get to meet. No matter if it's a celebrity or just Joe Bag-of-Dounuts, it's really cool to meet everyone. Most recently I was an extra in an up-coming Nick Carter Music Video, which was pretty cool.
SurvivorSkills: I know you had moved out to the West Coast, are you still living out there and how do you like it?
The General: Yes, I'm still living on the west coast. It's not N.Y., that's for sure, but the weather is phenomenal. I will always miss the people, food and just the damn heartbeat of N.Y., but I'm addicted to the weather here.

SurvivorSkills: Any funny or strange Survivor fan experience?
The General: Outside of the pleasure of getting to autograph some really nice "TO"'so and "A"'so There is one story that stands out. I was at The US Open out on the grounds with a camera crew and this cery large women approaches me and say's," You're the guy from survivor, right? I replied with a "Yes, how ya doin" She replies," You're the one I didn't like!" So I asked her," Then why did you come over to meet me?" She responded, " Well, I guess you're alright." Then proceeds to whip out three blank index cards for me to autograph. I told her I didn't have a pen, though one was peering out of my pocket.

SurvivorSkills: Who do you keep in contact with most from either your season or past seasons?
The General: There are many that I keep in contact with from almost all the seasons. Lex, Gabe, Paschal, Neleh, Tammy, Kathy, Jeff Varner and that's just to name a few. We are a tight dysfunctional family.

SurvivorSkills: I know you would interested in doing the "All-Star Survivor", do you think you could win?
The General: I didn't think I could loose the 1st game, of course I think I would win. An All-Star is a completely different game, since it is no longer strangers.

SurvivorSkills: What do you think about Survivor Thailand?
How did you like the new twist...2 tribes living on the same beach?

The General: To me, twists and curveballs are an essential part of the game. If the players don't know what to expect, or try and predict what will happens will be kept off balance and that is key. It's just a better game when it's not predictable, that's what keeps it fresh. As for the new cast, Shi Ann was my favorite and now is gone. It's hard not to like Jake and Jan, But that's what these sweet older southern people do, they are so damn nice and sweet, they sneak up on you. They are much more dangerous then a youthful, fit guy or a sexy honey. They must be stopped!!! Only kidding Pappy.

(I borrowed these questions from James Lipton)
SurvivorSkills: What job/career would you most like to attempt?
The General: I am really interested in getting into the adventure travel industry. Guiding expeditions and working with people. Anybody out there with a hook-up, let me know!!!

SurvivorSkills: What job/career would you least like to attempt?
The General: I guess going back to any 9 to 5 kind of life style. Going to the same place every day. Did it for 20 years, I don't care to ever go back.

SurvivorSkills: What is your favorite word?
The General: Life

SurvivorSkills: What is your least favorite word?
The General: Logically it should be death, but I think it's still coconut.

SurvivorSkills: What is your favorite curse word?
The General: I don't think I have just one.

SurvivorSkills: When you arrive to the Gates of Heaven what would you like to hear God say to you?
The General: Did a good job with the life I gave you.

SurvivorSkills: Do you think the Jets can make a run for the playoffs or would you just be satisfied if they end the season with a winning record?
The General: As a life long Jet fan, one thing is certain, anything can happen and they can also break your heart in more ways then you thought possible, but I would like to see them make the playoffs.

SurvivorSkills: Being a native New Yorker, what would you like to see happen with the 16 acre site at Ground Zero? A permanent memorial over the entire site or a combination of memorial and commercial space?
The General: I liked the idea of four 50 story buildings and a memorial.

SurvivorSkills: Finally, what does the future hold for Robert "The General" DeCanio?
The General: Hopefully a very long life with a lot of family and friends and never ending "Kick Ass Adventures"!!!
