"Assets VS Liabilities"
By Woondland Chris
This week we'll look at the Strong-Leader VS Consensus way of running a tribe in Survivor. Normally, having a stong leader system works well. It gives somebody for people to look to for direction and it provides for some measure of stability and organization... these are all good things. Unless...
Andrew is your leader! Lawyer Andy is taking his Morgan tribe right into the drink. Of the three most capable of leading Morgan, Andrew is the only one left... Lillian could have done an apt job, but never asserted herself early on, same with Skinny Ryan, who had good ideas, but didn't have the machismo to have lawyer Andy, Ryan-O, or Droopy-Drawers Osten listen to him. So, this tribe is left with Andy.
It was humorous to see Jeff question the tribe at Council and inform Andy's crew that they were the saddest bunch that had ever played the game... you can tell from Jeff's comments that he thinks the difference is leadership. True leadership is supposed to unify a team, not divide it. And what about all the lawyer-speak that came from Andy when Lillian pointed out that Osten didn't have the heart to play the game because he said he wanted to quit and moped around for 2 days... "No, Lil, he said he felt like quitting... he didn't really quit. That's a big difference... he didn't throw in the towel..." AAAARRRGGG!!! Lawyer Andy is an idiot, and is the reason Morgan will continue to lose. Now that the "cool kids" have gotten rid of the "geeks" in Morgan, where will they go next tribal Council? Survivor better mix the tribes up soon, or else we'll have an all Drake merge... and, if Morgan gets down to 2 people... how will they decide who gets booted?
Now, for the leadership style that usually causes trouble, but isn't (YET) for the Drake... Consensus. So far, they have been kicking so much Morgan butt that everyone is getting along as is happy to defer to one another in duties around the camp, etc. But, this is already breaking down... notice the animosity caused by trying to decide who was going to sit out of the reward challenge? How about the preview where Rupert's about to snap someone's neck for suggesting they throw a challenge... I can see drake splitting along the lines of Rupert's posse (who don't mind Jon's behavior), and Sandra's posse (who think, rightfully, that Jon is a jerk... and also want to suport the person who got them off to such a good start in the game). Yes, consensus leadership in the Morgan tribe is about to flip from being an ASSET to being a LIABILITY.
So, here's my current hate list:
1. Osten... all those muscles and no heart... Scary Mary needs to go.
2. Lawyer Andy... schemes like used-car salesman Brian, but without the class, intelligence, or charm.
3. Jon... what does he bring to his tribe, exactly? He will be the one who causes the Drake love fest to implode.
Who do I like?
1. Rupert... currently he is carrying his team... loved that wink at Osten at the IC!
2. Sandra... Got to respect a 4 foot-something woman who doesn't take any crap from drunk ego-inflated boys... oh, and she basicaly gave drake the fuel they needed to smoke Morgan right out of the gate.
