"Assets and Liabilities"

By Woondland Chris

What has episode 1 taught us? I would like to examine that question by looking at assets and liabilities... individuals or characteristics that either help or hinder your tribe, and which tribe has what at this point.

#1 Thinking fast vs. Thinking Smart

Sometimes thinking fast can be an asset, but it not usually in team-oriented challenges. At this point, Drake is kicking serious butt in this category. Morgan ran around town trying to yell people into giving them good deals, whereas Drake had a plan (and a Spanish speaking member... but we won't get into that). To leave for the island with a sack still full of money was about the stupidest thing they could have done. Bonus points to Sandra of the Drake on this one, and major negative points for Osten and the boys of Morgan (save Ryan, the produce clerk) for being to testosterone driven and charging ahead without thinking through and establishing a plan... and no, Osten doesn't get any credit for his "plan" to have the girls flash their mammaries at horny old men...

#2 Keeping your mouth shut vs. Sharing your feelings openly

No mystery here as to which of these two is the asset, no? So, who is guilty of revealing too much and will have it bite them in the butt later... Nicole was just the first victim, and others will follow. Jon (of Drake) had better be careful... cute and sober became drunk and obnoxious a little too quickly... oh, and I think when someone like Christa describes you as a "goofball," it's her way of saying you are a jackass. Tijuana... I just wish she'd keep her mouth shut, because her voice is already annoying me. If she makes it to the merge, I'll be amazed. And, how about Lillian? Note to Lillian... we get the fact that you are a scout leader (even if Osten is confused). Is anyone else tired of her talking about this yet?

#3 Nakedness vs. Strategy

Great... another Survivor season is here and the producers have swapped out women who are eager to get naked with men who will as a sign of solidarity. Oh, and props to the "junk" reference being used to refer to the male genitalia exposed during the challenge... this sort of family programming has me longing for the benign programs of my youth... Nightrider, A-team, the muppet show... although I never could figure out what Gonzo was supposed to be, nor his attraction to chickens. maybe it wasn't as benign as I thought it was...

So, the boys of Morgan, I hope you are listening... your nakedness accomplished NOTHING and just made you look stupid. It also helped, I think, to further alienate you from Ryan the produce clerk... more than a little bad blood at Tribal Council... I never knew giving 100% involved getting naked for other men... hmmmm... this is going down hill fast.

Well, let's stop there, shall we? I won't mention things like not looking at your map when trying to find water, nor the obvious advantage one tribe has with the acquisition of their fishing spear... and I am definitely not going to make any crude jokes about Osten being dubbed, "Scary Mary," and a whole tribe that seems to have a problem with crabs... I have to leave something for y'all to write about!

Ta ta... WoodlandChris
