Jimmy V Where Are You? …
By Rich Glanzer
The date was March 4th, 1993. And I remember the speech like I heard it last night. Former North Carolina State basketball coach Jimmy Valvano’s body was ridden with cancer. He was going to die, and soon, and everyone knew it. Yet he stood up, and in front of an audience filled with celebrities and sports stars, he told them, and the rest of the nation, “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.&quo;
It’s at times of desperation that I think of that speech. And right now, Bobby Jon and Stephanie could use those eternal words of wisdom. Fact is, until Jeff Probst snuffs out your flame, your Survivor life isn’t over.
However the challenge of surviving the remaining eight Koror members is daunting. Unfortunately for Bobby and Stephanie, the Koror tribe hasn’t had any reason to have any friction. While they obviously have discussed strategy, they probably need to have a snake or conflict for four of them to turn on the other four, and bring Bobby John and Stephanie with them. Which is why it looks so bleak for the Ulong pair, since there is no apparent snake, and there is no apparent conflict.
The only hope I see outside of winning individual immunity multiple times in a row, is the where you stand reward challenge. The smart move for Bobby Jon and Stephanie would be to purposely answer all the questions wrong (though I doubt Bobby Jon will have a choice) and watch from the sidelines who joins them first. The first three people to sit down next to them, are the three people they should try to form an alliance with. Janu, Caryn, and Katie would be the three people I would guess to fill those seats. This would work well for Stephanie, since she could help form an all girl alliance. However there is no guarantee that, that challenge will even happen. Of course there’s no guarantee the merge will even happen.
So with little hope for the pair, all they could do is fight like Jimmy V. would fight. And don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.
Speaking of giving up, how has Jeff’s plan of quitting so his tribe can go further in the game look now? This “selfless&quo; player’s face should be the new Ulong symbol.
Stephanie got very lucky her constant flip flopping didn’t cost her. I was shocked to see Stephanie is still in the game. She only had herself to blame had Bobby Jon chosen to keep Ibrehem. She should have gotten rid of James when they got rid of Angie. Angie was a better competitor, and had her back. Her flaw did not prove fatal though.
The move for Tom is to make it to the final five. If he somehow can convince his tribe to vote off Caryn or Janu, then make an alliance with Ian, Stephanie and Bobby Jon and one other Koror member, that would make the last few episodes very exciting. But I doubt that will happen.
