So Long Ulong!
By Rich Glanzer
Was there any doubt? I’ll answer that one, no. There was never a doubt in my mind that Bobby Jon or Stephanie could beat any two members of Koror in a team challenge for immunity. Unfortunately, Bobby Jon will go down as one of the worst competitors in Survivor history. Don’t get me wrong, I respect him, he always gave his all, unlike some of his original tribemates. But he was awful. There was little doubt that Stephanie was going to beat him in the end of that last fire challenge. Bobby Jon would probably do very good as the 2nd or 3rd best player on a team, but not the leader. He just didn’t have the mental strength to succeed.
So what will become of Ulong’s Survivor? She’ll probably be the first member of the jury. While Tom says he wants to take her to the final four, I don’t see how he’ll be able to do this. He’ll need four other Koror members to come on board, and I don’t see how he has the votes. If he tries to make a power play now, he may get voted out before Steph.
Speaking of Tom’s power play’s, he committed a very big Survivor Sin, and what made it worse, was he knew it while he was doing it. You have to let them shower!! Everyone wanted to shower, and Tom wouldn’t allow it. I know water is important, but so in cleanliness, and if I were one of his tribemates, I’d want to vote him out because he’s the one stopping me from showering. Tom is too strong a player to fade into the sunset and dance under the radar, but he doesn’t have to paint that already large X on his back any brighter.
So Tom’s play is rather simple. Lightly gage if you can get the four and then bring Stephanie in, but if you can’t, then make it Koror power and be willing to vote her out. However he could enact a brilliant play which has only worked once in Survivor history. Lose on purpose to her, if you see that will get her immunity. That way you have to keep her, and then it would split the tribe up. But he can’t make it obvious, and he has to let Stephanie know that he’s doing it on purpose.
Unfortunately, this was one of the best thought out Survivor’s ever, but much like AK in Texas Hold Em’, sometimes the flop isn’t with you. The challenges were great, I like many of the contestants, but with one team dominating so much, it just made the show very predictable.
