Enough is Enough!!
By Rich Glanzer
The rain falling down on Koror when Janu decided to quit Survivor was not appropriate, despite what Jeff Probst said. What was appropriate was Janu throwing up during her Reward Challenge. Because after watching yet another "Survivor" quit, all I want to do is throw up.
How many weak and pathetic and utterly cowardly contestants can the boys in casting come up with? Tune in next week when Katie announces that she’s so weak and pathetic, that she should be the next to go!
Maybe I’ll be the next to go. Maybe the rest of America will be the next to leave. Why watch something and care about who wins, when the contestants clearly don’t? Greg and Tom are right. Survivor isn’t about who deserves to stay and deserve to win. It’s about how the individual contestant can further themselves in the game. It’s about going up against someone so weak, that they not only tell you that they can never beat you (Katie) , but they’ll prove it by quitting (Janu, Jeff, Osten, Sue Hawk, BB, Ashlee).
Is this something that Probst and Survivor creator Mark Burnett want? Because if it isn’t then they fooled me. One of the best episodes of all time was when Osten quit. It was great because of the way Probst handled it. It turned a really good game show host into a great one. But Probst has rarely been great since that moment. Last week when Stephanie decided she wanted pizza instead of immunity, Probst quizzed her and grilled her about her decision. It was vintage Probst.
When Osten quit, Probst humiliated the "man." Osten may not have felt humiliated, but he should have. Probst not only was at his best, but he was THE BEST. He fought for the people that never got on the show, and told Osten that too many people have gone through great struggles to get on and stay on the show, for him to just give up. He laid Osten’s torch down, and ripped him to shreds.
Tonight, Jeffy smiled and comforted Janu, saying she wont be going home but be on the jury. How does this woman stay on the show?!?!? She should be sent immediately home, and not invited back to the reunion show, or any other Survivor function. She quit. Just like so many others. Let Bobby Jon take her spot in the jury. He may not have won at anything, but he never quit, and always gave his all. You can respect a man like that.
As for Stephanie, had she not jumped off the poll for pizza last week, I’d be thoroughly impressed with her. She knew it was her, yet she knew it wasn’t her time to go. She fought, cried, scratched, clawed and did everything possible for Janu to quit. But yet when Janu did, she gave Janu one more out. Stephanie what are you thinking?!?!?! Let the quitter quit! Just like you voted Jeff out because he asked you to, let Janu quit! But you gave her an out, and are real lucky she didn’t take it.
As far as I’m concerned, there’s one person and one person only that deserves to win this thing. Tom is the man. He captained the most successful tribe in Survivor history, and has won two consecutive endurance challenges. While it wouldn’t surprise me in the least if he’s the next to go, it would make me very upset. I know Survivor isn’t supposed to be about who has the best abs, and who can bench press the most. But it used to be about who has the most devious mind and the most heart. I don’t know of any Koror member outside of maybe Koby with a devious mind, but Tom clearly has the most heart, Stephanie included. So GO TOM GO! You got a fan here.
As for Janu, go away! You don’t deserve to be on my television screen. You are weak and pathetic and you disgust me. There is no difference between you, Osten, Jeff, or any other Survivor quitter. And as for Jeffy Probst, please go away as well. Give us The Man back. You used to be the best. How do you think Donald Trump would have handled Janu? He would have dragged it on for a little while longer for better TV purposes, and then fired her ass. You should have done the same, like you did with Osten. But you didn’t.
Survivor is my favorite television show. And tonight, I’m embarrassed by that.
For the record, until the very unclimatic finish, I thought Probst was on to something. I believed in him. Yes, he clearly steered Janu to quit, yet he never could have that power with anyone else in the game. She gave him that power, and Jeff took it. He absolutely made Janu quit. He also made her quit the reward challenge. He can do that, because she was so weak and pathetic. I’ve already heard mixed reports on Probst performance last night. My brother says it was his absolute best, while another pal of mine thought he had too much influence. Perhaps Probst thought the same thing, and that’s why he didn’t bash Janu? I’d be interested to find out.
