Poetic Recaps
by Michele Kevany
The morning of day thirty seven, Katie was elated
After Ian's betrayal she had been feeling frustrated
At the last Tribal, Caryn had done her a huge favor
By exposing to the jury Ian's duplicitous behavior
Despite Ian and Katie's spat having been resolved
She wanted "out there" the circumstances involved
Though Tribal had been heated, Ian was also upbeat
His "stock" was down for those occupying a jury seat
Ian saw this as a plus, Tom now stood out as a threat
He felt "really good" knowing a pecking order was set
Tom and Ian were preparing another clam for the team
When suddenly they heard a loud and scary scream
Both ran into the jungle to the source of the clamor
They found a cooler with contents all would enamour
Jen and Katie were standing over a bountiful treasure
Bacon, eggs, bread, coffee and fruit for good measure
The breakfast was in celebration of Palau's "final four"
As well as sustenance for a shot at three days more
Back at camp, their bounty was harmoniously split
A little levity, said Katie, before their throats get slit
Tom likened it to an "atta boy", as in Ladder Co.108
With no "gimme's in this game", he saw this as great
Later, Jen and Katie reiterated to Ian his dire pursuit
He had to win Immunity in order to give Tom the boot
Ian nodded in agreement, saying "it's four...game on"
His "responsibility" was to "beat the crap out of Tom"
Ian said if he's wearing Immunity, he'll rob Tom of a win
However if he loses, Tom will be his "best friend again"
They hiked off to compete for the penultimate Immunity
The winner will be guaranteed a spot in the "final three"
When they arrived, they noticed a shiny new yellow car
The final four survivors took a seat in the Chevrolet SSR
Jeff told them the glove department they should inspect
Jen opened it and retrieved a blank million dollar check
Jeff referred to it as "a little reminder of what is at stake"
He then explained a challange that was no piece of cake
The challange before them was nothing short of towering
They'll be left in the cold if they find themselves cowering
Each will have a rope strung through a ring at their waist
It will be threaded along as they move forward in haste
A "Tire Crawl Thru" will be the first obstacle they face
Three stops to untie rings of keys will slow their pace
Once three sets are collected, to the tower they'll run
After arriving, from the rope they may become undone
The key sets will then be used to open three padlocks
Not choosing the right key may prove a stumbling block
Once they're open, and poles has been pushed through
They will hurry to a ladder and proceed up to level two
The second level will have ropes they'll need to untie
Once through a trap door they'll be three stories high
Using a grappling hook, four ladder rungs they'll need
Poor coordination may hinder their chance to succeed
After assembling their ladder, to the top they must go
The first two to raise a flag will compete in a toe to toe
In the last round, two will glide out to sea on a flying fox
They'll retrieve a bag and quickly swim ashore to a box
The bags hold three numbers and a combination to seek
Concentration and steadiness will need to be at it's peak
Once the correct sequence is entered and the lock is free
Inside the box they'll grab a flag and raise it for all to see
The first survivor to finish will wear the Immunity necklace
For the tribe it was fortunate they'd had a good breakfast
In no time Jen, Tom and Ian had retrieved one set of keys
They untied the second and third sets with similar ease
To stay in the challange, Katie needed to get on the ball
Jeff said she was "either worn out, or not worried at all"
Tom open his locks first and sprang up to the next floor
Ian and Jen followed, while Katie found the tires a chore
Katie hit the second level as Tom untied his way to third
Tom threw out a grappling hook and a "clank" was heard
Ian and Jen joined him and commenced with the tossing
Katie's pace implied she felt safe from a double crossing
Tom mastered the hook, each of his throw's hit the mark
Ian didn't fare as well and Jen appeared to be in the dark
With his ladder assembled, Tom made his way to the top
He raised his flag, ensuring that into the water he'll drop
Ian hooked a last rung, built his ladder and up he went
Down a flying fox both Tom and Ian would now be sent
From atop the tower they sailed over the watery blue
They each got a bag and hurried to shore for part two
Though Tom was leading, he had trouble with a knot
Ian was now at work on the combination he sought
Tom finally opened his bag and quickly got to work
He entered a combination and gave his lock a jerk
It granted no passage and he was on to his next try
Each man's second attempt left them high and dry
Ian gave his lock a tug after a third order was tried
He again had no luck with the numbers he applied
Tom's third attempt was a charm, as his lock gave
After claiming the flag, he raised it and let it wave
Where a knief had awaited the necklace now sat
Yet again Tom "pulled another one out of the hat"
At camp, Ian said he now had no choice to make
If he'd won Immunity, either Tom or Jen he'd take
Since he lost, Ian said, Jen was on her way out
Though Jen was not ready to lay down and pout
She asked Tom if he would send a vote Ian's way
Tom said the word he gave would ensure Ian stay
He told Jen with Ian he had a pact for final three
The two would duke it out for a seat next to Katie
Ian came upon their discussion and Tom reiterated
He was sticking with Ian as was previously stated
Tom gave Jen a hug and Katie and Ian did the same
Jen cried when she realized she was out of the game
Later, Tom, Ian and Katie sat by a glowing campfire
Ian said he was relieved Immunity he did not acquire
Between Tom and Jen he would've needed to choose
Tom sat in stunned silence in reaction to Ian's news
He felt taken, after having said he'd honor their deal
Tom was dismayed to learn he wasn't a third wheel
Away from Ian and Kaite, Tom had a talk with Jen
For Tom, an ear Jen was more than willing to lend
Tom repeated the remark that Ian had disclosed
He asked Jen if Ian had wished he be disposed
Jen said that was what Ian had intended to do
Tom then asked of Jen "who did he say that to?"
Jen said "to me...to us", and Tom furled his brow
He then said of Ian, "let's talk to him right now"
Tom called out "Ian my friend, come talk to me"
He told him he "was floored" over Ian's quandry
Tom asked him if he had planned to vote him out
He was willing to give Ian the benefit of the doubt
Ian stammered, but finally gave Tom a solid "yes"
This turn of events Tom would never have guessed
Ian tried to convince him it had been "game talk"
He didn't intend to force Tom onto the loser's walk
Ian wished his comment Tom would simply forget
When they left for Tribal Council it was past sunset
Jeff greeted the survivors and their jury took a seat
Another two members and the panel will be complete
Jeff mentioned that every Tribal starts about sundown
Something must have been "going on" at Koror town
Tom filled in Jeff about the duplicity he'd discovered
Thanks to a slip on Ian's part a plot was uncovered
Jeff told Ian he was in the midst of a swirling cloud
Ian tried to explain that which to Tom he had vowed
He said the two men had a "gentlemen's agreement"
Trying to get to the end was the target achievement
Jeff asked Ian if the agreement included a "heads up"
When he said "absolutely", Ian squirmed like a pup
Jeff inquired of Tom why then was he so surprised
He asked if Ian filled him in on his planned demise
Tom said "no", adding Ian just made a "third strike"
Hearing Ian's use of the word "try" Tom did not like
Tom said the deal was they "would" take eachother
In the end they would fight it out brother to brother
Ian corrected himself, the deal was as Tom stated
He was growing increasingly frazzled and frustrated
Ian asked Tom how he could take Jen's word over his
Tom said "it's your words" that brought them to this
Jeff then mentioned "the looks on everyone's face"
The others were down yet Jen had a smile in place
She told Jeff she was glad the pot had been stirred
Jen felt, for the jury, the information should be heard
Jeff next asked Katie why she was looking so pained
Ian was only considering Tom's stance, she explained
She too had a vote, which Ian appeared to disregard
He seemed unaware that she too was holding a card
Ian said he addressed Tom because of earlier events
Katie told Ian ignoring her vote would not make sense
If Tom votes for Ian, she could swing the tally to a tie
Or she could follow Tom's lead and bid Ian goodbye
Katie asked Ian if he had lied to her in the past day
After a questionable pause it was "no" he would say
Jeff informed the tribe that it was now time for a vote
Each survivor silently went to the booth and wrote
Their tally read two votes apiece for Ian and Jen
Excluding these two, Tom and Katie voted again
The repeat vote ended up in a repeat conclusion
So Jeff said a "tie-breaker" would be the solution
Ian and Jen were each assigned a "fire making urn"
They had to create a flame and make a rope burn
Fire making materials and matches were provided
With Jen's history with fire, this may be one-sided
They two took their positions and Jeff said to begin
Once a rope burns through, a flag will signify a win
The two went to work and Ian soon had a blaze
Though Jen had garnered barely a smokey haze
Ian's fire climbed higher and soon a flag appeared
It was the Tribal Council outcome Jen had feared
This wasn't how she wanted her game to end
The torch that Jeff snuffed belonged to Jen
Day thirty seven had been their longest by far
Just two days away from the money and the car
The final three returned to a deserted camp Koror
And picked up the same conversation as before
Tom was uneasy after giving Ian a two vote attack
So he reminded himself Ian stabbed him in the back
Regarding Ian, Tom said "it's a personal grudge now"
As they entered day thirty eight of "Survivor Palau"
But before any sleep was had to aid in that big day
There was something Tom wanted to hear Ian say
He wanted Ian to admit that before his Immunity win
Ian planned to dump him and not duke it out like men
"That's not true" said Ian, it had not been his intention
Tom was sure he wouldn't have seen an intervention
He did not believe that just prior to his Immunity win
Ian chose to honor the final three alliance he was in
Katie advised Ian fessing up was the right thing to do
Afterall, she added, "Tom's been sticking up for you"
Ian remarked "no matter what I say, I'm the bad guy"
Tom said lying to he and Katie was the reason why
Ian felt "curcifled...for a decision I didn't even make"
Tom replied it was a chance Ian never got to take
He said if Ian had won Immunity, at that very hour
Home is where they'd find him, taking a shower
The next morning, Ian awoke filled with doubt
He said "last night I was completely laid out"
Ian was confused, had he done others wrong?
Or had he just been playing the game strong?
Ian felt singled out, as though he alone had lied
He expressed regret, then broke down and cried
Katie walked up to Ian, asking his plans for the day
Ian replied he wanted Immunity on his neck to lay
Katie looked pleased, asking "are you going to fight?"
He told her he was not "afraid" to give it all his might
Katie told him to win and then take her to the final two
Ian assured Katie that was what he had planned to do
The final three united to read the last treemail for Koror
Prior to the next challange they would complete a chore
There were fifteen fallen commrades to be remembered
To the Palauan waters their torchs will be surrendered
They will paddle northward to a "giant rock with a gate"
The three will bury at sea the fifteen torchs that "await"
Tom referred to this as "a sweet moment of this game"
He was humbled at having this rite of passage to claim
They paddled away to perform the ritual with impunity
Still, "koror claws" will dig when it comes to Immunity
They reached the island and the torchs were collected
The tradition began and on the game each reflected
One by one Katie gently gave them a "burial at sea"
With a look on her face that read "better you than me"
Jolanda bore the distinction of "first person voted out"
Leadership skills and physicality afforded her no clout
Ashlee became the first Palauan survivor to call it quits
For those not chosen to play, her attitude was the pits
Then Jeff threw in the towel when he twisted his foot
He told his tribe on his ankle no weight could he put
Kim's try at uniting the women was too little too late
She became the next to receive a torch snuffing fate
At the "Double Tribal Council", Willard was through
He appeared more upset at having to miss the stew
Angie was next, though that hadn't been Ulong's plan
One surprise Immunity and she exited Ulongian sand
Though James helped his weary tribe laugh like heck
They kicked to the curb this self-proclaimed redneck
Ibrehem followed, he remained an enigma to the end
He never seemed to have much game-play to expend
Next went the philosophical, irrepressible Bobby Jon
The writer of this poem was very sad to see him gone
Coby's ousting made him the first member of the jury
After he sang like a bird Koror dumped him in a hurry
Janu's drive to play the game had clearly run aground
On night twenty seven she quit, laying her torch down
Next to exit was Steph, the sole survivor of her team
She's was strongest woman this game has ever seen
A survivor was duped into wearing a face full of egg
That player turned out to be none other than Gregg
Caryn's increasing paranoia led to her ultimate demise
She was never able to separate the truth from the lies
Their last fallen comrade was the sweet faced Jen
After the sinking of her torch, this task was at an end
They'll fulfill the last line of what treemail had decreed
"On to your next challenge, the battle for the final three"
