Survival Tip: Detox Before Going On Survivor

No Smoking

Before embarking on the adventure of lifetime one should consider detoxing themselves of any addictions.

Shane Powers, the 35 year old Entertainment Marketer from Los Angeles, decided not prepare himself before leaving to play in the social experiment known as Survivor. Powers was a three-pack-a-day smoker for 20 years and is now admittedly suffering from nicotine withdrawals.

Shane: "I have to get through this detox, and I can't lash out at anybody. I just can't. It is unbelievably hard, and I have only been here a day."

In the game of Survivor “playing well with others” goes a long way. Suffering from nicotine addiction, being irritable and lashing out at your tribemates is not the strategy of a great gamer. I have to ask the question, “Why didn't Shane quit a week before leaving for the show?” I can just see him now, sucking on that last cigarette before stepping onto the boat. Talk about putting things off until the last minute!

Had he never seen an episode of Survivor? Did he think they would allow him to bring his smokes? I'm sure he was aware that matches or a lighter were forbidden on the show. How would he lite his cigarettes without matches? I question Shane's motives for going on the show. Even though his bio lists his occupation as the owner of an Entertainment Marketing Company, he really is actor. According to IMDB his last acting role was in 2002. Is he looking to boost his career as an actor or is he serious about Survivor and trying to play the best game he can? I'd say he is just looking for exposure. Anyone that is serious about playing the game of Survivor would have prepared themselves physically and mentally.

I'm sure Shane will get a lot of camera time while he suffers through his withdrawal symptoms. His irritability will make for a great show. Of course for as long as he lasts. Shane will exit the game quickly unless he can latch onto an alliance that will carry him further.

Oh, and the irony of it all Shane proudly wears one of Lance Armstrong's "Live Strong" bracelets as seen here.
