The Merge is Coming!

Tribes Merge

La Mina and Casaya are about to come together.

10 castaways remain on Survivor Panama: Exile Island, now is the time for the tribes to merge. Backstabbing, lying, and double dealing will ensue. The challenges become more exciting as individual rewards and immunities are at stake. Also, tribal council is more serious and cutthroat. Backstabbing someone at this point could cost you their vote as a juror. For some, the merge can be their salvation, for others it could mean their destruction. This is when Survivor really gets interesting.

With the departure of Astronaut Dan Barry, Casaya is going to outnumber La Mina by 6 to 4. La Mina now has to scramble and try to sway votes in their favor. Cirie and Bruce are on the outside of the Misfit alliance of Aras, Shane, Courtney and Danielle. They could possibly flip to La Mina's side and shift the power. Focusing on Bruce for a moment, he is the lost sheep out of everyone. His tribe doesn't respect him and they were ready to give him the boot. If he joins Terry, Aras and Nick he might last a few more episodes.

Cirie has a couple of options once the tribes merge. She can completely dump her tribe and go with La Mina. But there she would end in 5th place at best. Or, she can quietly stay behind Danielle and Courtney, voting with them until the final 4, possibly slip by to the final 3. In this scenario she is in the best position. Once Casaya has voted off the last of La Mina and begins to turn onto themselves, Cirie will be sitting pretty as the swing vote.

But then there is Sally, La Mina's odd woman out. She will be reunited with two of her former tribemates, Danielle and Courtney from the Younger Woman tribe. She might align herself with those two in order to get away from the Boy's Club alliance of Austin, Nick and Terry. Now the power shifts to the women. Together, Danielle, Courtney, Sally and tagging along for the ride Cirie, the women could take control of this game. I wouldn't be all that surprised if Cirie became Sole Survivor. She could fit into anyone's alliance. Her game play reminds me of Sandra Diaz Twine, the winner from Survivor: Pearl Islands. If Cirie can keep her head in the game and remain flexible by not letting herself to become tied down to any one alliance, she could pull off a win.

But whatever is about to happen it is going to make great TV. The merge draws out people's strategy and Survivor goes into high gear. This is why I really enjoy this stage of the game. I wish for one season there were no tribes. Don't split them up. Put the 16 castaways together in one huge tribe from the beginning. Now that would be a great social experiment. I'd compare it to trying to survive in a city than a small town. Think of the double dealing that would then take place. There would be so many different alliances you'd lose track. Could you imagine 16 people at one tribal council? An alliance of 4 or 5 would mean nothing, you would need to get 9 people for a majority. The vote could go in any direction. No one would be completely safe.
