Survivor Commentary

Sarge
No Mas!!
by Rich Glanzer

In one of the more memorable boxing matches, Roberto Duran couldn’t take it anymore against Sugar Ray Leonard, and told the ref, “No Mas.” He had given up.

I am now tapping out of this Survivor. I’ll watch every episode, but until the last two “men” go, it’s hard to watch. I mean just when you think they can’t get any dumber, they prove you wrong.

While I won’t rehash any of their previous mistakes in not keeping one strong man around, now they can’t even see a gift when it falls in their laps. That challenge, where the women went after the men one by one, was the best thing that could have happened to the guys. Watching previous Survivors would tell you there was a good chance that challenge was coming up. What they should have done, is plan for this. They should have agreed to take each other out before the women could take them out for themselves. Then they should have laughed about it, instead of sitting on a bench pouting, as the superior tribe basically laughed in their face.

Then they should have paid attention. And kept quiet. While there was nothing outside of winning immunity Sarge could have done, Chad and Chris could have possibly stayed alive for more weeks than they will.

But instead of seeing how mad Eliza was and going up to her, they tried to stay alive one more day and eliminate her. HOW DUMB ARE THESE GUYS?!?!? Outside of a little extra cash prize, what good is it to join an alliance of 7, if you’re 5, 6, and 7? The smart move would have been to gone up to Eliza, and let her know that while there’s nothing that can be done this week, she can guarantee herself a place in the final three, if she turns on Scout and Twila, and can get Ami and Julie, and Leeann to join them.

Now granted, this would have been near impossible, but it’s worth the attempt. Chad’s epiphany about just realizing if Eliza and Twila join them, they’d have five vs. four was about as idiotic as getting rid of every strong guy. Why in the world would Twila turn her back on the women, and be #4 in an alliance of five? Why would Eliza join an alliance where she would be #5? Unlike the men, they’re not dumb. So they wouldn’t.

But by trying to oust Eliza, then switching to Scout, it just shows desperation. They’d be better off trying to keep what little pride they have left.

The play for Chad and Chris right now is to try and oust the other. There is nothing that can be done to oust a woman, unless a big fight occurs. And even then, it’s doubtful. Then they have to win immunity and try to find a split in the tribes, and make a play. Shii Ann tried to do that last season in All-Stars. But Boston Rob’s tribe remained loyal to each other. But Survivor is a simple game of math. No one knew that better than Long Island Rob during his first season. He saw that he was four in an alliance of four. So he switched. It was a difficult but easy decision to make. Chris or Chad must do the same next week.

However it won’t be easy. Because right now, the women haven’t showed their cards. It’s obvious to see Leeann and Julie are tight, as well as Twila and Scout. However it’s not like there’s an easy to see 4 vs. 2 or 3 vs. 3. But if that becomes apparent, it would behoove the last remaining man to threaten to join the other group if he doesn’t have some assurances.

But they need immunity to do that. And judging by how weak Chris and Chad have played up to now, it wouldn’t surprise me to see Scout wupp their butt in an arm wrestling match. So I think my wish of seeing the men face the ultimate humiliation, of having the last six players all women, will come to fruition. And the men will have no one to blame but themselves.
