Survivor Commentary

men vs women
Here We Go Again
by Rich Glanzer

Forgive me for being so negative already. But last year when I picked Amber to win before the 1st episode, a lot of people were impressed. Afterall, it was a 1-18 shot. But I didn’t see it like that. I thought it was a 1-9 shot, since there was no way a guy was going to win. It looks like that may hold true yet another season.

While I don’t begrudge the guys this season for getting rid of Brook, I begrudge their reasoning. He’s a strong player. He’s too strong, we got to get rid of him was the men’s mindset.

I agree, I mean who needs strong players when they lost to nine girls!

Here’s a free tip to any future male going on Survivor: Make a strong male alliance!! Or else you’ll be deemed too strong, and voted out first. Which will leave yet another weak woman to win.

On another note, was this the most unimpressive Survivor openings yet? I think so. I heard the first 10 minutes were going to be great. But much like the Amazing Race, the first 10 minutes were meaningless. While not all the teams landed at the same airport (a very funny joke if you are one of the six people that watch Amazing Race) I really didn’t need to see 100 natives pretending to stab people I knew weren’t going to get stabbed.

Another reason the show lacked today, was it was only an hour long. For the first episode or two, I really need at least 90 minutes. I didn’t get to know Brook, I didn’t see how the women reacted once they got back to their camp, and I didn’t see enough of the strategy on why the men eventually got rid of Brook. But hey, at least it’s one less female name that’s gone!

One last thing about this season. I like the men vs. women concept. But I also like all the swerves Survivor throws out there. But this season, I’m hoping the swerve is there are no swerves. Let’s see what happens if they go down to eight before the merge. Let’s see who wins. And please no contests where a judge decides. I can see that on the Apprentice.

My guess would be if the men played against the women the entire time, they would dominate them, as long as there’s no balance contests.
